images.jpg

How to get the Windows Media Center remote to work with Linux:

You need to install lirc:

install atrpms Yum repo:

cd /etc/yum.repos.d
vi atrpms.repo

Then install lirc via yum :
yum install lirc
yum install lirc-devices
yum install lirc-lib
yum install lirc-lib-devel
yum install lirc-kmdl-`uname -r`

Next edit /etc/lircd.conf

edit /etc/rc.local

add the line :
/sbin/modprobe lirc_mceusb2

/sbin/chkconfig lircd on

Add the following to your .mythtv/lircrc and link .lircrc -> .mythtv/lircrc

reboot

you are done!

I heard LIRC was one of the biggest "challenges" of a myth setup. Thx to your good work, the remote was operational in seconds.

Thank you so much, the remote rocks don`t it?!!

Hi,
Thanks for the guide. It worked with my MythTV on a fedora core 5 machine. I am using RC 6 remote control and OVU 4003/00 USB transreceiver that came with the latest Windows MCE.
I can browse through the mythtv menu, etc using the remote.. However, once I start a video, I cannot pause, stop, rewind, forward, mute. All the MythTV video settings are default, i.e. it is using mplayer to play the video, etc.
I can also see the remote signals for pause, stop, rewind, etc received properly, when I run 'irw'.
Any help is deeply appreciated..

thanks,
sandeep

Had to change the lircrc file for mplayer mappings. seems mplayer can understand 'q' instead of 'quit' and so on.. check man pages of mplayer to see what the actual values are..
